Successful Diary Talk and Upcoming Reading

Unknown.jpeg

Yesterday’s diary talk at the Woman’s Club of Amherst was delightful. Many appreciative ladies, some new friends and old; one who drove 3 1/2 hours from Maine just to say ‘hi’ and show her support (thank you Holly!). The Woman’s Club is right across from Emily Dickinson’s house and, as you can see, holds its own in a neighborhood of grand homes of another era. I even got a commemorative mug to add to my collection. And now I’ve written, revised, re revised, a 30 minute talk on antique diaries so am well prepared if anyone just happens to need such entertainment for her book club or get-together. On March 19th from 12-4 the Amherst Woman’s Club is hosting its annual flower show.  I’m told the house is filled with arrangements, all for sale at reasonable prices. Tickets are $5.

In keeping with my habit of scheduling several events all at once and then nothing for six months, I will be giving a poetry reading next week! On March 1st I’ll read in the Writers’ Night Out  series at 21 Center Street (The Basement) in Northampton. The evening begins with an open mic from 7-8. I read from 8 to 9ish. I don’t imagine filling an entire hour so come early. I have been told that this crowd likes to hear about the poet’s process, inspiration, etc. I don’t usually discuss these things at readings, but will choose poems with a little back story. Besides the Mass Poetry Festival at the end of April where I  may read a few poems as part of a panel on motherhood and poetry, I don’t have any readings scheduled in the near future. So, if you live in the area and are the type of person to visit Northampton in the dark of night, I’ll be in a basement reading poetry.
